Abstract

What explains the forced departure of democratically elected presidents before the end of their term? The purpose of this article is to review the literature on the removal of presidents and discuss the points of convergence and divergence in this literature. This topic of discussion has emerged in the last 20 years and has gained increasing importance with new cases of elected leaders who have left office earlier than expected, especially in Latin America
