Abstract

We review the situation of indigenous women in Latin America, including some of the forms of exclusion and discrimination they suffer in the context of globalization and the nation-state, domination systems that date back to the colonial conquest. Specifically, we discuss the proposals of “gen-der equality”, “indigenous feminism”, “duality” and “complementarity”, seeking alternatives to femininity and intercultural relations towards a redefinition of the state and a deeper expression of democracy.
